All throughout my elementary school experience, there was a boy I had a not-so-secret crush on. ALL the girls did. Trust me on that one. He was a Michael Jordan-worshipping, basketball-playin' star even back then. Fast forward to my high school experience and the boy with b-ball runnin' through his veins appeared again. With M.J.'s famous "23" on his blue and silver jersey. He'd literally carry that orange and black ball in his arms, everywhere he went. He probably even ate lunch with the thing. Long story short, when reading the Converse-addled article below, I was reminded of the boy with the basketball and wanted to post it so I forever will be ...
Converse - Still Innovating
Converse has long been one of
the leading shoe manufacturers in the world, and this year sees the brand
steeping up their offerings even more. Converse is a well-established name in
the fashion industry – mostly due to the unparalleled success of their
legendary All-Stars. And although the success of that specific style would have
prompted many other brands to slow the pace, what makes Converse shoes different is that they’ve not rested on their
laurels.
The brand keeps innovating, and
has even released a number of fashion ranges, including men’s jackets and T-shirts. However, this year Converse
is taking on the rest of the market by releasing a number of rare and limited
edition trainers. The most significant of which combine some of the most famous
shoes ever produced, with one of the most admired sportsmen in history – Michael
Jordan and the Jordan Brand.
Converse are releasing a
limited edition redesign of the shoes Michael Jordan wore 30 years ago when he
scored the winning point during the American College NCAA Basketball
Championship game. Only 23 pairs will be made and then auctioned off for
charity.
Other developments in the
Converse camp include the manufacturer’s brand new collaboration designs.
Cartoon characters have always been popular as print designs on garments, and
Converse’s new range of Wonder Woman trainers are sure to be a hit. DC Comics
and Converse have joined forces to produce these shoes, characterised by bold
colours, fun designs and a timeless heroine. They can add a fantastic sense of
individuality to any look this season.
Finally, Converse has
assembled some of the hottest musical talent to collaborate as part of their
“Three Artists. One Song” initiative. This time around it’s well-known DJ,
A-Trak, Mark Foster, of Foster The People, and Kimbra, best known for her
collaboration on Gotye’s recent Somebody that I used to know.
Joy Howard, Vice President of
North America Brand Marketing of Converse, said: “Converse is in its seventh
Three Artists. One Song series, and with each new collaboration we’re
continually blown away by how talented these artists are when they come
together to express themselves. Mark Foster, Kimbra, and A-Trak are making some
of the most exciting music out there today and we’re thrilled that our
partnership with Journeys could be the catalyst for bringing them together.”
Editor's Note: See what I mean? How could I not be giddy with the insta-reminder of my high school, all-star b-baller crush after reading that?!? What with all the talk of the Michael Jordan limited edition trainers and stuff. Goodness. Which, of course, really, really, REALLY makes me wanna go out and buy me my own pair (or two or three) of 'good luck chucks' just so I can be reminded of it all forever more. Jeepers.
